There are Five Elements (Phases) in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Each phase has individual mode. Modes are reflected in peculiarities of functional systems in organism. It means there are only Five types of Systems operate and support entity of any living object. The additional pair of systems is encompassing the above mentioned Five types of systems.

Metabolism and Traditional Chinese Medicine

Metabolism - is the set of chemical reactions that occur in living organisms in order to maintain life. These processes allow organisms to grow and reproduce, maintain their structures, and respond to their environments.

Metabolism is divided into two categories

Catabolism
- this process yields energy, an example being the breakdown of food in cellular respiration.
Anabolism
- it is opposite process, it uses the energy of catabolism to construct components of cells such as proteins and nucleic acids.

As far as organism cosists of living cells, we can assert the Five Functional systems are presented by cells also. A comparison of terms "anabolism" and "catabolism" with terms of TCM is possible.

It is easy to understand that catabolic process correlates with Yang, but anabolic one with Yin in TCM.

It means Yin/Yang oscillation presents in Functionals Systems, but phases of oscillations are different for all functional systems.
